Allianz rewards top Soweto matriculants

Pictured below: Allianz CEO in South Africa Thusang Mahlangu (second from left) rewarding top three Diepdale Secondary School matriculants: Palesa Mamaila, Rendani Mukwevho and Tshilidzi Radzilani with laptops and data.

Tshilidzi was the top student with six distinctions and is studying Civil Engineering at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Former Student Representative Council (SRC) leader, Rendani, matriculated with three distinctions and is doing Accounting Sciences at the University of Witwatersrand. Palesa is studying Political Science at UJ after obtaining two distinctions.

Allianz has invested over R1 million in programs such as the Allianz Maths and Science Centre and the Saturday School Program to improve educational outcomes at the Soweto-based school. The matric pass rate was 58.9% in 2017 when Allianz began working with the school. The results improved significantly, where the school averaged a pass rate of over 80% in 2018 and 2019. The school achieved over 75% matric pass rate in 2020 and is aiming for a 100% in 2021. Tebogo Moroti is another beneficiary of this program. She is studying dentistry at the University of the Western Cape after matriculating with seven distinctions in 2018.
