Aon Benfield held it’s Client Day on 19 March at the Hyatt Regency in Rosebank.
The theme for this one was ‘Big Data’, with a variety of speakers unpacking the various angles and implications of the current trend towards big data for the industry.
Things were kicked off by Sim Tshabala, Joint CEO Standard Bank Group, speaking on the future of financial services in Africa and parallels with the insurance industry.
Two of the bigger highlights of the day included Eleanore Obst of the Aon Benfield office in London cleverly equating ‘analysing the big data pie’ with baking metaphors such as ‘the bigger data gets, the harder it gets to digest and so accuracy is a key ingredient’ and CEO Aon Benfield Africa Simon Chikumbu’s talk entitled ‘Excess Capital in Reinsurance – where are we heading?’
Other speakers included Pieter Visser ,Catastrophe Analyst/Meteorologist at Aon Benfield Africa South Africa presenting on the interdependence of claims management and catastrophe Management and Professor Adam Habib, Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Witwatersrand, speaking on the ‘Socio-Political Evolvement’ of South Africa.
