Discovery announced the addition of prominent international and local luminaries to the list of thought leaders who will be speaking at this year’s Discovery Leadership Summit, to be hosted on 5 March at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg.
Firstrand co-founder, former CEO and current Chairman, Laurie Dippenaar, JSE Chairwoman Nonkululeko Nyembezi-Heita and Bidvest founder and CEO, Brian Joffe have been confirmed as additions to the line-up.
This is in addition to Nobel Prize-winning American economist Joseph Stiglitz, international branding guru Adam Morgan, and British Olympic champion and former MP Lord Sebastian Coe. A discussion on “Competing and winning at the highest level in world sports” will also be held, with the panel comprising Heyneke Meyer, Gary Kirsten and Gordon Igesund. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz who was scheduled to attend unfortunately withdrew his participation for personal reasons.
Dr. Bernanke, currently a Distinguished Fellow in Residence at the Brookings Institution, served two terms as Chairman of the U.S.Federal Reserve. During his tenure, he oversaw the Federal Reserve’s response to the late-2000s financial crisis. He has also served as chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. Prior to this, Bernanke was a tenured professor at Princeton. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard and a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bernanke has published articles and books on a wide variety of economic issues, including monetary policy and macroeconomics. He has held a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Sloan Fellowship, and in 2001 was appointed editor of the American Economic Review.
