Last night, at the annual Convention of the Financial Planning Institute, Jan-Carel Botha, a Certified Financial Planner professional at Ultima Financial Planners, was announced as the Financial Planner of the Year 2012.
Jan-Carel, CFP® holds a B. Com degree in Economics (UNISA) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning (UFS), and is a member of the Financial Planning Institute. Jan-Carel has been a fee-based professional financial planner throughout his career. He is part of the financial planning team at Ultima Financial Planners which is also home to a former FPI Financial Planner of the Year. Jan-Carel has also been nominated in consecutive years (2010 and 2011) as one of three finalists of this award.
Jan-Carel has been a guest speaker on numerous platforms to the larger public on various topics of financial planning which includes being a guest on Summit TV’s show, The Summit Investor and also regularly features as studio guest of Wealth Through Financial Planning on local radio station, Impact radio 103FM. He is also regular guest speaker to corporate companies and members of pension and provident funds on specific issues of financial planning. Jan-Carel believes that constant improvement and adoption of global best practices in financial planning is of essence to stay relevant and offer clients lifelong peace of mind.
The competition constitutes of three rounds, with round 1 being the submission of entries together with a portfolio of evidence that’s based on a detailed financial plan based on the well-known FPI six-step financial planning process and marked by an independent panel of judges.
The second round involves a Panel Site Visit to the entrants’ businesses and assessments being done on all aspects of FAIS’s compliance, practice management as well as all client documentation and the financial planning processes. The financial plans are further authenticated during these site visits.
The competition then progresses to the panel interviews, considered to be the final round of the competition process. In this round, finalists will be required to present to a panel on a selected topic and are questioned on a variety of industry trends, topics, technical information and legislative changes.
As the national winner, Jan-Carel Botha will officially be appointed as the 2012 FPI and CFP® professional brand ambassador effective as of 20 June 2012 and receive the necessary media training to serve as the brand and industry spokesperson.
As the winner, he receives a Financial Planner of the Year trophy and a certificate. Furthermore, he will be profiled in the FPI magazine, on the FPI website, in Personal Finance publications and will receive benefit from on-going significant exposure in the media during the year. The winner will receive a return economy air ticket and attendance costs to attend an international financial planning conference of the winner’s choice as well as free attendance at one FPI Annual Convention.
