The Scheme achieved this by leveraging its strong advisor channel and talented in-house Direct Sales team to drive membership growth. Bestmed’s Retention team also plays a significant role with their relentless focus on retaining members.

If you are already a loyal Bestmed member, thank you for choosing Bestmed. The Scheme looks forward to continue being of service to you.

If you are a new Bestmed member, welcome aboard.

If you are looking for a medical scheme that offers excellent benefits, value for money and outstanding service, give Bestmed a call.

While thousands of people lost their jobs and many medical schemes lost members, Bestmed recorded a 2.4% growth rate despite the COVID-19 crisis, and retained its position as the fourth largest open medical scheme in South Africa, holding 4% of the market share, and is the largest self-administered medical scheme in the country.

Bestmed’s membership offerings include 13 unique plans, designed to suit the needs of individuals at each phase of their life journey. Members have access to a network of more than 15 000 healthcare professionals countrywide. Bestmed’s promise to deliver healthcare that is “Personally Yours” has never been as important as during a time when we are facing a national and global health pandemic. The Scheme is proud to have stayed true to its brand promise during these challenging and uncertain times.

The Scheme remains committed to ensuring that they are large enough to create value for its members, personal enough to provide care for each one of them, and attentive enough to listen and respond with agility to realign its service offering to its vision of helping its members to live their best lives today, tomorrow and in the future.

According to Bestmed’s CEO and Principal Officer, Mr Leo Dlamini, “The quality of our growth has not been at the cost of service to members. This is affirmed by the results from the 2020 Ask Afrika Orange Index® and 2020 South African Customer Satisfaction Index results. Our solid financial performance over the past few years, which has led to a solvency ratio of 47.3% in 2020, has contributed to attracting new members and growing the Scheme. However, we are not chasing numbers. We feel that member growth enables us to negotiate costs to offer our members better value for money.”

Mr Dlamini adds, “We embark on strategic and innovative benefit design and sophisticated actuarial modelling to provide the best healthcare solutions for our current and potential members. We place a massive focus on reducing the cost of medical cover and developing a more affordable medical aid solution for those who currently cannot afford healthcare cover. Given our healthy reserves, we will continue to give back to our members in the form of enhanced benefits, and fewer co-payments and out-of-pocket expenses.”

Bestmed’s future strategic focus remains that of focusing on quality and affordable healthcare, and adopting innovative solutions to retain and grow its membership sustainably. Bestmed will continue to be a scheme that pays attention to its members’ needs, providing them with the healthcare solutions that they need.

The Scheme thanks its valued members who place their healthcare needs in Bestmed’s hands and who have remained loyal during these difficult times. Bestmed remains committed to providing its members with the best quality healthcare and service to which they have become accustomed.
