Oakhurst staff proud to be “co-pilots” at the Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge

By: Oakhurst
The 16th Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge recently took place in the picturesque town of George on 18 February. The Challenge is unique as being the first and only event exclusively for the disabled in South Africa. This year, 1000 athletes in racing wheelchairs, adapted bicycles, hand cycles, basketball chairs and ordinary wheelchairs travelled from all over the country to participate in this premier event. It also brought together hundreds of visitors, residents and volunteers who supported the various races through the streets of George.
A total of 150 Oakhurst Insurance staff members volunteered to be ‘co-pilots’ in the 5km race and showed that they Really Care. This was a fantastic opportunity for us all to come together and to give back to our community by assisting with pushing those in their wheelchairs, and to share in the laughter and joy of the day. It was evident that everyone in attendance left the event, feeling abundantly blessed themselves, not only for our own health and mobility, but also the privilege of the warm interaction with the inspirational participants who hailed from far and near and helped remind us how privileged we really are, and what a great community we are part of.
It is our participation in, and the sentiment attached to events such as these that will be remembered as something really special, for years to come.
