Old Mutual maintains Level 1 B-BBEE status for second consecutive year

Old Mutual Insure partnership with Reach for a Dream celebrates the power of dreams

Believing in the power of dreams shines light, hope and strength on the darkness, especially during times of hardship.

This is the inspiring message behind a new partnership between Old Mutual Insure and Reach for a Dream, which is encouraging all South Africans to believe in the power of dreams this Heritage Month.

“We are excited to be part of this partnership given that the last 18 months have not been easy for many people and communities in South Africa. At a time when optimism is required more than anything, we believe in the transformative power of dreams to inspire real change for the better,” says Antonia Oakes, Retail Executive of Customer Experience and Responsible Business at Old Mutual Insure.

The project will see a stunning new coffee table book, In Good Company, go on sale, the proceeds of which will be used to support children with life threatening illnesses. Specifically, it will enable Reach for a Dream to build a ‘Dream Room’ for kids in Lambano Sanctuary, a children’s hospice. This will be a safe, uplifting, and inspiring space, which promotes healing for terminally ill children, who go here to recover. The room will also be used to fulfil the dreams of children who are not allowed out of the hospital with a better environment to recover in.

The book, a brainchild of creative ‘alchemist’ Marc Gregory, celebrates South African culture by telling the unique stories of 32 well-known South Africans who have achieved extraordinary greatness, in a visually appealing way.

Oakes says that Old Mutual Insure wanted to be part of a creatively inspired campaign that would celebrate South African culture through the visual arts.

“This project is an extension of Old Mutual Insure’s belief in the importance of connecting with the communities we serve in real, meaningful and impactful ways,” says Oakes.

To date the Reach for a Dream Foundation has opened 19 Dream Rooms in various hospitals around the country. These include Chris Hani Baragwanath, Charlotte Maxeke, Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria and The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.

“People throughout the world are going through a tough time. We could all use something good to believe in, take part in and feel good about. Even in tough times, people really care about our communities. We hope that all South Africans are inspired to buy the book and help enable children’s dreams to come true,” concludes Oakes.
