Pension fund reforms create investment and expansion opportunities in SSA

Alexander Forbes, Africa’s independent retirement-fund administrator, is seeking expansion in West Africa after its initial public offering, reports Bloomberg TV Africa.

“Our dominant focus for growth is Africa and we will follow pension fund reforms in countries like Ghana,” Edward Kieswetter, chief executive officer of the Johannesburg-based company, said on 10 July in an interview with Bloomberg TV Africa in the city.

“Our default growth model is organic, but at the same time we’re alert to potential opportunities out there.”

Africa’s lenders lead in profitability

South Africa’s lenders, for so long the shining light in Africa’s representation in The Banker’s Top 1000 rankings, retain the top spots in the regional list, but mostly with declines in their Tier 1 capital, according to the 2014 edition of the rankings which was recently published. The good news, however, came from the direction of Moroccan financial institutions, notes a summary of the Africa’s performance.
