Phia van der Spuy wins the 2020 FISA Chairperson’s Award

<p>At the 10<sup>th</sup> Annual FISA Conference held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 12 November, the annual FISA Chairperson’s Award was presented to Phia van der Spuy, in recognition of her significant and major contribution in educating and guiding consumers and trust practitioners about trusts and estate planning.</p>

<p>Ms van der Spuy is a Chartered Accountant with a Masters degree in Local and International Tax, a Fiduciary Practitioner of South Africa<sup>®</sup>, a Master Tax Practitioner (SA)™, a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and the founder of Trusteeze<sup>®</sup>, a professional trust practitioner. She also holds a B.Com honours degree in Industrial Psychology.</p>

<p>Ms van der Spuy is a regular media commentator, guest lecturer and professional conference speaker on trusts and estate planning. She has also published a book called “Demystifying Trusts in South Africa”.</p>

<p>In 2014 she co-founded Trusteeze, a disruptive digital solutions provider in the fiduciary space which led the way in digitising trust administration and accounting.</p>

<p>Ms van der Spuy’s expertise in fiduciary matters is however only one element of her remarkable multi-faceted career of 30 years, founded on a strong legal and financial background.</p>

<p>She has worked in various capacities in some of the largest financial institutions in South Africa, including roles in structured finance, property finance, property development, risk management, and private equity. Her strength is a diverse background of understanding and management of risks across various sectors. </p>

<p>Ms van der Spuy holds memberships with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), the Fiduciary Institute of South Africa (FISA), the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the SA Institute of Tax Professionals (SAIT). </p>

<p>The award is given annually to the person who, in the estimation of the FISA Chairperson and the FISA Council, has made a remarkable and significant contribution to the fiduciary profession. Nominations are called for in the months leading up to the FISA Conference. No sitting FISA Councillor or any employee of or contractor to FISA is eligible. </p>
