RE 1 and RE 2 Examinations (New FSB Reulatory Examinations.)

Our submission to be recognised as a representative body to deliver the new RE 1 andRE 2 examinations for short term insurance has been submitted to the FSB for review. We hope to receive our appointment in the course of the next few months. We have had strong support from both SAIA and FIA to assist the IISA in this new venture that will strongly reposition the IISA in the industry as the correct and appropriate body to facilitate these exams, to create the learning material and the examination question banks that will be required. The exams will be offered electronically with facilities for handicapped persons to complete the exams. Examination centres will be available countrywide for students to attend to complete the exams.

More information will follow as it becomes available.

SUBJECT MATERIAL

The IISA, as one of its most important functions, produces updates and markets insurance course material for learners. It supplies this to various universities, colleges, academies and corporate members for staff education. We are embarking on a wide-ranging exercise to do updates to all our course material this year. This is a major project and will be facilitated by the IISA drawing on industry experts to assist us in the review.

We have already launched several workgroups who are now in the process of reviewing our material. The COP (Certificate of Proficiency) course will be receiving urgent attention as we progress this initiative. We intend bringing the COP back in line with its original intention of being a course to assist new entrants to our industry to bridge the gap between school and the industry. This means a review of the current course content and making sure amendments are aligned with industry requirements in terms of learners’ knowledge.

In regard to subject matter for other courses, we will not be ignoring what the CII in London has been doing. It is interesting to note that it is also this year embarked on a course of updating all its material for students.

PIP SEMINARS

After two very successful seminars on the RAF (Road Accident Fund), we intend delivering the next seminar during May on the subject – THE ABC OF FAIS COMPLIANCE .This will be a vital seminar for all staff, insurance companies and intermediaries to attend to be brought up to date with regulatory requirements and practical implementation ideas. We will shortly have the information on our website so book early to avoid disappointment as we expect large numbers to attend.

IISA ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2009

The Conference will be held at Sun City, from 28 to 29 June. Interest in this year’s event has been mounting. In addition to a strong panel of guest speakers, we will be commenting on various industry developments that are topical at the time of the Conference. As previously noted, last year’s shortened format proved very popular and this year, the Conference will again commence on the Sunday with the main golf competition, followed by exhibition viewing and a glamorous welcoming cocktail party, sponsored by Mutual & Federal. The Monday will include presentations from seven top notch speakers, exhibition viewing and networking time. The Conference will conclude that evening with a fun theme party, sponsored by Tracker and delegates can be back at their offices by Tuesday late morning. Book on-line at www.iisa.co.za before 31 March ’09 and receive extra discounts off your registration.

CPD (Continuing Professional Development)

We have now appointed a chairman of our CPD committee to drive this development to final fruition. The committee will be working together with input from the FIA and SAIA as well as the FSB to ensure we have a fully integrated CPD for the industry taking seriousnote of the CII (Chartered Insurance Institute of the U.K.) and the Australian Institute activities in this field.
