RITE – the reader project

R.I.T.E is changing the prospects of children in previously disadvantaged communities by teaching basic literacy.

We continue to make a difference in the quality of Foundation Phase Education in South African schools. In the last 15 years learners in Gauteng and KZN have benefitted from the Alphaland Literacy Programme and The Reader Project series which we have donated to under-privileged schools. We have donated the RITE Readers to over 1000 Grade R and Grade 1 teachers. RITE is a Section 21 company, sponsored by Renasa as its social responsibility programme.

Teachers tell us what they need.

We have met over 1000 teachers through the Literacy Workshops that we have hosted. Teachers have 50 children in a classroom and lack teaching aids, namely “readers”. We have developed a series of readers that consist of 11 books, 10 of each in a pack. In the course of development we have consulted the relevant academic authorities to ensure delivery of an effective aid. We have donated a pack of 110 readers to each teacher that we meet and reached our target of donating 200 000 books. We set our sights now on the next 200 000!

Giving each child their first book encourages them to read.

We have printed 200 000 illustrated readers. Imagine the impact this will have! The cost of producing the readers is approxi- mately R3.10 per reader which we believe is more than justified by the wonders the project will achieve in sponsoring a better education for disadvantaged communities.

100% of all contributions go towards producing the readers.

RITE needs to raise supplementary funds to meet the cost of the illustrations and printing of the readers. To this end, we ask you to donate R10 000. Because Renasa is subsidising the project, all the money you donate will go directly into the production and printing of the readers. Renasa funds the associated distribution and mentorship costs. We appeal to you now to assist us to take this project country wide.

Your support has already made a difference.

Of course, we will provide you with a certificate confirming your donation for tax purposes and your company will be noted as a sponsor on each booklet. We are more than happy to meet you in person and show you our plan to get these readers to beneficiary schools.
