September 2019 COVER Magazine: In my view

By: Tony van Niekerk

More to events than meets the eye

The events “silly season” is almost over, with the AIE and FPI Conferences being the latest deliveries and the AIO Reinsurance Forum in Tunisia being days away as I write this.

At the back of this issue we bring you some highlights of the event as well as a few photos, just to increase the FOMO for those who weren’t there.

I was also privileged enough to attend the Primak 30th anniversary celebrations and we bring you
some highlights and comments from that event. Indeed a fantastic achievement in the broking world to have kept growing for over 30 years.

Then taking a look at what is happening in the financial markets; a few Twitter comments unleashed a trade war while massive economies fight unintended currency wars, with unexpected monetary decision adding spice to uncertainty. If you are wondering how all these issues interact, check out the overview of the current global roller coaster ride inside this months edition.

We also have a fascinating article exploring the risks posed by rogue employees and how to identify and deal with this insider risk that can cost companies dearly. Some risk you would have expected but others will surprise you.

Look out for our FPI conference feedback in the October issue of COVER.

Erratum: FMI correction. Beneath the paragraph “Over Reliance on sick leave” it says “we offer a 15-day waiting period”. It should be a 14-day waiting period. See the reprinted article on page 34.
