IUM is founded with 5 employees and focuses on administration for brokers.
2008
IUM creates its own cell captive with Centriq and launches its first insurance product.
2010
IUM expands its product offering into haulage and partners with Swiss Re. IUM relocates to its new head office in Bedfordview with 89 employees.
2014
IUM hosts the world’s first launch of Seeing Machines in South Africa, the only fatigue and distraction detection technology designed to prevent vehicle accidents from occurring.
2019
IUM’s annual GWP exceeds R600 million and becomes Africa’s largest independently owned underwriting manager.
2021
IUM’s annual GWP exceeds R1 billion, and becomes one of the largest capacity underwriters in South Africa, able to insure any single risk location up to R1 billion.
2006
IUM employs 35 additional employees and expands its product offering.
2009
IUM is awarded SANTAM’s most prestigious Diamond Award for service excellence within the financial services industry.
2012
IUM launches its commercial and personal lines insurance products and grows GWP to R300 million.
2017
IUM initiates its internal surveying and risk management department. Staff compliment grows to 159 employees.
2020
Despite the Covid pandemic, IUM remained office bound, delivering on its commitment to service excellence to brokers and clients. GWP grows to R900 million, employee compliment exceeds 200 and it’s Cape Town branch opens.
2023
IUM successfully renews it’s reinsurance treaty with an increased capacity to R1.15 billion and increases its top-rated reinsurers from 5 to 9.
