Tapping into the advice of investment specialists from around the globe

Speakers at retirement conferences provide valuable insights, foster informed decision-making, and drive positive change in the retirement industry. Their expertise contributes to a more secure and equitable retirement landscape for all.

Nowhere is this decision making more important than in the investment space. While the implementation of the Two Pot Retirement System is currently forefront in the collective mind of the sector and will be dealt with thoroughly at this year’s Institute of Retirement Fund Africa’s (IRFA) annual conference to be held at the Cape Town Convention Centre from 6th-8th October, sound and sustainable investment will feature strongly in the conference programme.

According to Executive Officer Wayne Hiller van Rensburg speakers on the topic will cover investment priorities such as governance, infrastructure investment and continental and global investment practices and trends at the two-day session. Hiller van Rensburg says, “Trustees of retirement funds need to be constantly updated not only on legislative and regulatory requirement but also on investment practices and trends on both a local and international scale. Investment carries significant risk in terms of market volatility, inflation, interest rate increases, liquidity, longevity and currency fluctuations, as in the case of foreign investment. In addition, infrastructure investment is also of vital importance to South Africa and the continent at large. Bearing in mind that the raison d’etre of retirement funds is to invest and safeguard member assets, the subject of sound and sustainable investment practices must be in the forefront of any sectorial knowledge sharing session.”

In addition to local subject matter experts, the IRFA conference will feature expert speakers from one of the largest multinational asset management companies as well as from China on the topic.

Delegates will be exposed to key information on risk and portfolio management in addition to learning of strategic development projects and investments in infrastructure as well as global and local research on investment and geopolitics.
