Now in their ninth year, the New Generation Awards continue to celebrate South African creative agencies for their innovative use of social and digital media.

Blogging Excellence by an Agency
Gold for Flow Communications/Maropeng: Maropeng blogs.
- The Maropeng blog covers a range of issues relating to palaeoanthropolgy and archaeology in Africa, including exciting new fossil finds, stories about what it’s like to work in the industry, and new research findings. This is the second year in a row we’ve won a blogging award for Maropeng and the fourth year in a row we’ve won an award for blogging at the New Gens.
Best Social Media Reach from an Event
Silver for The South African Presidency/Flow Communications: The 2021 State of the Nation Address.
- We were proud to work with the South African Presidency, getting the message out on social media about the State of Nation Address, the president’s most important of the year. The social media campaign lasted a week – starting three days before the speech and ending three days after. Over that time, there were 66 004 mentions on the hashtag. #SONA2021 reached 171 052 952 unique accounts. And the hashtag generated some 2 368 858 070 (more than 2-billion) impressions. We were also proud to stream the State of the Nation live on a website we built.
Bronze for the Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture/Flow Communications: Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture.
- The campaign centred around the 2021 Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture for the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation. The campaign centred around the 2021 Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture, which focused on the perils of climate change. The results were phenomenal in terms of virality: we attained a social media reach of 8 657 884, more than 98-million impressions and news media coverage valued at over R13-million.

Bronze for Heartlines/Flow Communications: Heartlines website
- We built a new website for the NGO Heartlines, consolidating their five websites into one. This improved organisational efficiency dramatically, by introducing one control panel. Web traffic increased by 60% after the launch of the new site.
