Acting Deputy Director General: Tax and Financial Sector Policy

As of February 2025, Chris Axelson serves as the Acting Head of Tax and Financial Sector Policy at South Africa's National Treasury. In this role, he oversees the development and implementation of policies related to taxation and the financial sector, aiming to promote economic growth and stability. Prior to this position, Axelson held various roles within the National Treasury, contributing to fiscal policy formulation and financial regulation. He holds a masters degree in economics and is a CFA charter holder. Axelson has been instrumental in shaping South Africa's tax reforms and financial sector policies.
