Human Indemnity
Graeme Mackenzie and Mahesh Pillay of the MBL Group talk about a new insurance concept called human indemnity, which involves trauma and global counselling services to clients who have suffered a traumatic event.
"Looking at terror, political violence, active assailant/active shooter type incidents around the world, regardless of where they were, while there was a solid response from the insurer and a solid response from the emergency services, there was no co-ordinated joined up industrial scale ability to be able to rehabilitate the humans affected by the events." - Graeme Mackenzie
The psychological post event harm caused to survivors of critical incidents can be significant.
"Human indemnity basically does the same thing indemnity would do for an asset. Insurers globally are typically very good at repairing or replacing a damaged asset. In the case of most businesses, business owners would suggest that their most valuable asset is their people. What we identified is that the insurance companies, as good as they were at indemnifying the insured from a financial perspective, they weren't taking any measures to indemnify the people that were affected." - Graeme Mackenzie
